FDA Proposes New Front-Of-Package Nutrition Label

The FOP label dubbed the "Nutrition Box" would complement the nutrition facts label that is required on most food packages.

The FDA is proposing to require a front-of-package nutrition label on most packaged foods.

The new rule would provide accessible, at-a-glance information to help consumers quickly and easily identify how foods can be part of a healthy diet.

The FOP label dubbed the “Nutrition Box” would complement the nutrition facts label that is required on most food packages.

However, it will display a simplified version of the nutrition information rating the saturated fat, sodium, and added sugar content as low, medium or high, on the front of the package.

If finalized, the rule would expect major food manufacturers to add the nutrition info box to most of their packaged foods three years after the effective date.
