FTC Passes Rule Regarding Junk Fees On Ticket Prices

The rule requires service fees, resort fees and other charges typically added to booking to be included in advertised prices.

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission passed a new rule Tuesday regarding junk fees.

The legislation applies to ticket sellers, hotels and vacation rental sites. Those businesses will now be required to disclose total prices and fees upfront.

The rule requires service fees, resort fees and other charges typically added to booking to be included in advertised prices.

The FTC passed the rule 4-1. It marks one of the final pieces of President Biden’s crackdown on junk fees that drive up consumer costs without providing visible benefits.

It is more specific than what the FTC proposed last year that would have broadly banned hidden and deceptive fees regardless of industry.
