Congress Approves Bipartisan Bill To Avoid Government Shutdown

The approved deal gives Congress and President-elect Donald Trump more time to discuss further funding for next year.

Congress has approved a bipartisan bill to avoid a government shutdown.

The deadline date was set for December 20. Now, the passed legislation is set to go into effect on Friday with a funding deadline scheduled for March 14.

The new package features add-ons including a one-year farm bill extension, nearly $100 billion in disaster relief, around $10 billion in economic assistance for farmers and other authorizations.

The bill also covers nearly $30 billion in funding for the Federal Emergency Management Agency, $2 billion in funding for the Small Business Administration and more.

The approved deal gives Congress and President-elect Donald Trump more time to discuss how the government should be funded for much of next year.
