China Expands Its Visa-Free Transit Policy

The new measure allows Americans and other eligible foreign travelers to stay in parts of the country as long as 240 hours, or 10-days.

China announced it is expanding its visa-free transit policy.

The new measure allows Americans and other eligible foreign travelers to stay in parts of the country as long as 240 hours, or 10-days.

The country’s National Immigration Agency said passport holders from 54 countries are eligible including countries in Europe, Latin America and Asia along with the U.S. and Canada.

The measure is effective immediately. Previously, travelers could only stay in China visa-free for 72 to 144 hours. That depended on their reason for visiting.

The new policy was placed as officials attempt to attract more overseas visitors.
