Supreme Court Reveals New Lottery Program For Court Seating
Through the new program, the public will now be entered into a lottery pool to be selected for a seat.
The Supreme Court announced a new program that will allow the public to enter a lottery for reserved courtroom seats.
Previously the court allowed the public to sit on a first-come, first-served basis, with lines forming outside the courthouse during early hours in the morning, or even the day before major cases.
Through the new program, the public will now be entered into a lottery pool to be selected for a seat.
“Some seating” will still be allocated using the first-come, first-served method.
However, starting in February, other seats will be given to winners of the online lottery.
The deadline to submit a seat request will be four weeks before the argument you want to be present for. You will then be notified three weeks in advance if you were selected or not.
The public can begin entering the lottery for February arguments now through the Supreme Court’s website.
