TikTok And ByteDance Asks Court To Pause Ban

TikTok said that the public interest favors providing sufficient time for an orderly review process.

TikTok is asking the court for an emergency injunction to prevent it becoming unavailable in the U.S. next month.

The U.S. government passed a law demanding the app’s sale or ban due to concerns over it’s link to China.

Its parent company ByteDance denies being linked to China. It also claims data is not being shared with the country.

The social media company lost its appeal against the law in a decision handed down Friday. Now, TikTok and ByteDance have submitted a legal request to temporarily block the law to give the Supreme Court more time to consider the matter.

The Department of Justice has called for the request to be dismissed, saying its underlying arguments have already been “definitively rejected.”

However, the company says an injunction is justified because Donald Trump is set to replace Joe Biden as president. Trump has previously indicated he would overturn the law.
