Supreme Court Hears Arguments In Second Major Transgender Rights Case

Tennessee's governor approved legislation that blocks adults from helping minors receive gender-affirming care without parental consent.

The Supreme Court heard arguments Wednesday in its second major transgender rights case.

Tennessee’s governor approved legislation that blocks adults from helping minors receive gender-affirming care without parental consent.

The law also bans adults from assisting minors with getting an abortion without parental consent.

Both laws were set to go into effect in July before facing legal challenges.

The court heard arguments with opposition stating the law violates the equal protection clause of the 14th amendment. That amendment requires people in similar circumstances to be treated the same under the law.

Supporters argue the major decisions covered under the ban should be made after an individual becomes an adult.

Both sides of the case claim their actions are protecting minors from harm.

The Supreme Court is expected to issue its decision by summer of next year.
