Why You Should Unplug Before You Leave for Vacation

63% of home electrical fires are caused by electrical malfunctions.

The National Fire Protection Association is advising people to unplug all their devices and appliances before leaving for vacation. According to them, 63% of home electrical fires are caused by electrical malfunctions. This includes not only obvious appliances like your toaster or phone charger but also ones you might not think to unplug, such as your washer, dryer, and dishwasher. Unplugging these can save yourself the worry of a house fire and even lower your energy bill, as plugged-in appliances still draw electricity even when turned off.
