State Officials To Assist Workers Impacted By International Paper Closure

S.C. Works staff will be at the plant November 6-8 helping employees with resume writing and other skills.

In wake of International Paper in Georgetown is shutting down, state officials are hosting a job fair for impacted workers.

Nearly 700 employees are being forced to search for a new job as the mill is set to close for good by the end of December.

S.C. Works staff will be at the plant November 6-8 helping employees with resume writing and other skills.

The job fair itself will be held on November 21-22. That’s at the Howard Center located on Hawkins Street. Those interested in participating can call 843-545-3161.

In addition, Horry-Georgetown Technical College is hosting a job and resource fair at its Myrtle Beach location on Wednesday from 10am-1pm.

The closure is expected to impact the Georgetown community in more ways than one.

Officials say around 200 contractors and many local businesses will be impacted as well.
