International Paper In Georgetown To Close

"In addition to the elimination of nearly 700 jobs, there are further community impacts including to contractors, small businesses and nonprofits."

International Paper in Georgetown is set to shut down for good.

The mill will close down in stages that will begin on December 1.

All operations are expected to be completely halted by the end of the year.

IP has been a large source of employment in the community for decades.

674 employees currently work for the company with 526 hourly and 148 salaried.

A county spokesperson said, “In addition to the elimination of nearly 700 jobs, there are further community impacts including to contractors, small businesses and nonprofits.”

Officials will be in talks with IP to reveal more information as they decide on plans moving forward.
