Florida Prepares For Another Hurricane Amid Helene Damage
Milton is expected to hit in the Central Gulf Coast Wednesday night and could unleash record storm surge.
Residents in Florida are bracing for another major hurricane before they were able to clean up from Helene.
Helene’s death toll climbed to at least 232 people and many people are still missing. It was the second-deadliest hurricane to hit the U.S. in over 50 years.
Many residents in Helene’s path did not have flood insurance. The estimated cost of uninsured flood losses range between $20 and $30 billion.
An estimated $10.5 to $17.5 billion worth of insured wind and flood losses were also recorded.
The cost figures come as Florida prepares for the landfall of Hurricane Milton that is currently barreling toward the state as a Category 4.
Hundreds of people are being forced to evacuate.
