This marks the first two presumptive positive cases in humans in the state.

Two farm-workers in California have tested positive for H5 Bird Flu.

This marks the first two presumptive positive cases in humans in the state.

Both of the workers submitted specimens to the CDC for confirmatory testing.

The two cases appeared to be unrelated.

Both people worked on different dairy farms in California’s Central Valley and both farms had cattle known to be positive for H5N1 avian influenza.

The victims each had mild symptoms and are expected to be okay.

Health officials say the threat to the general public remains low.

However, farm workers are at higher risk. They are urged to wear personal protective gear to reduce risk of infection.
