Union workers at three dozen facilities covered by 14 port authorities from Maine to Texas are threatening to walk off the job.
The ‘International Longshoremen’s Association’ is asking for a $5-per-hr pay increase per year over a six-year contract. That would increase the top hourly pay from $39 to $69. It also would keep its current ban on fully automated equipment.
The deadline is midnight on Tuesday. If demands are not agreed upon, this could be the most disruptive strike the U.S. has seen in around five-decades.
