U.S. To Send Additional Troops To The Middle East
They will be on stand-by if the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah threatens Americans and evacuations are needed.
The Defense Department announced plans to send additional U.S. troops to the Middle East.
U.S. forces already have roughly 40,000 troops in the region, but the plan includes sending a few dozen more.
The new troops are not being deployed for a specific mission. However, they will be on stand-by if the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah threatens Americans and evacuations are needed.
The troops will be sent over in the coming days as the region braces for a significant escalation in the conflict between Israel and the Iranian-backed militant group in Lebanon.
Amid ongoing retaliation attacks, the Biden administration expressed concerns regarding a lack of understanding of what Israel’s plans are when it comes to conflict with Hezbollah. The same issue has also come about at times during Israel’s war against Hamas.
