Republicans Vote To Block Democratic IVF Protections Bill
The bill seeks to make IVF treatment more affordable by requiring insurance coverage for fertility treatments
Senate Republicans voted Tuesday to block a bill that would guarantee access to in-vitro fertilization nationwide.
The bill seeks to make IVF treatment more affordable by requiring insurance coverage for fertility treatments under employer-sponsored insurance and some public insurance plans.
The legislation would also expand coverage of fertility treatments, including IVF, under U.S. military service members and Veterans’ health care.
Republicans voted down the same bill earlier this year arguing the measure was both unnecessary and problematically broad.
The 51-44 vote Tuesday fell short of the 60-vote threshold Democrats needed to overcome the set back.
