How Bird Baths Can Be Dangerous
Birds love them, but they can pose a health risk if not done properly.
You might think bird baths are a harmless backyard feature in your yard. But it turns out, they can be more dangerous for birds than you might think. The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds say that the best baths should have a depth no more than 4 inches with rocks or stones on top. This will give smaller birds a place to perch and reduce the risk of drowning. They also recommend cleaning the bath often and replacing the water every other day to prevent the risk of the birds contracting various diseases. Even though it can be a pain, making the changes can make your bird bath a more safe and inviting spot for them to enjoy.
