Fatal Titan Submersible Expedition Hearings Kick Off

The hearings will allow the Marine Board of Investigation to present their findings during their 15-month long investigation.

Hearings on the deadly Titan submersible expedition are now underway.

The Titan submersible imploded in June of 2023, killing five people on board during its dive to view the Titanic wreckage.

The vessel sent its final message just six seconds before it lost contact with the surface which read “dropped two wts.” The message refers to weights the submersible could shed in hopes of returning to the surface.

A lawsuit filed by the family of one of the victims has claimed the message, sent around 90-minutes into the dive, was an indication the crew may have known something was wrong and were trying to abort the mission.

The hearings will allow the Marine Board of Investigation to present their findings during their 15-month long investigation. It will also hear directly from key witnesses and subject matter experts who will comment on what happened, if it could have been prevented, and more.
