Polaris Dawn Crew Returns To Earth After Successful Mission

A historic spacewalk was conducted marking the first completed by a privately funded and operated mission.

SpaceX’s Polaris Dawn crew has returned to Earth.

The Crew Dragon capsule carrying four astronauts splashed down in the Gulf of Mexico around 3:30am Sunday.

The Polaris Dawn mission made history as it reached 870 miles from Earth. That marks the highest Earth orbit ever traveled by humans.

During the mission, a historic spacewalk was conducted marking the first completed by a privately funded and operated mission.

Returning to Earth was one of the most dangerous stretch of the mission as the spacecraft reached up to 3,500 degrees fahrenheit.

The four crew members are now home and safe.
