33,000 Union Members At Boeing Are Now On Strike

Around 33,000 union members at Boeing are now on strike.
The walk-outs come after workers strongly rejected a proposed four-year contract with the troubled aircraft manufacturer.
The rejected deal would have given raises of at least 25% over the life of the deal. It also would have increased job security for union members.
However, 95% of members of the IAM Union voted against the deal leading to 96% voting to authorize the strike.
This marks the first strike at the company in 16-years and is expected to virtually stop commercial airplane production at one of America’s biggest manufacturing giants and largest exporter.
Boeing has a total of 150,000 U.S. employees and it estimates its own annual contribution to America’s economy at $79 billion.
Boeing said it is eager to return to the negotiating table to reach a new deal.
