SpaceX has officially launched it’s Polaris Dawn mission.
The capsule took off just before 5:30 Tuesday morning from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
Four private citizens are on board the capsule which is set to travel to the highest orbital altitude that humans have reached since the final Apollo Mission in 1972.
The designated point is 870 miles above earth’s surface. That’s over three times higher than the International Space Station.
The group will test new space-suits and technologies with hopes to pave the way for future long-duration missions to the moon and eventually Mars.
The crew is also expected to conduct a space walk during the unique mission.
