SCOTUS Refuses To Lift Block On Student Loan Repayment Plan ‘SAVE’

Those enrolled in the plan have had their loans placed on forbearance while the legal challenges play out.

The Supreme Court has refused to allow a student loan repayment plan to move forward.

The plan known as ‘SAVE’ was recently blocked after Republican-led states sued to have it removed over the summer.

SAVE had been the main way for borrowers to apply for loan forgiveness. The program allowed people to make payments based on income and family size, with some having their remaining debt canceled all together.

However, Wednesday’s decision leaves millions of Americans in limbo. Those enrolled in the plan have had their loans placed on forbearance while the legal challenges play out.

The loans will remain on hold and interest will not be applied while lower courts consider the merits of the legal challenges. If successful, millions of students will be forced to revert to other plans.
