Special Counsel Jack Smith Revises Indictment Against Donald Trump

The indictment now leans primarily on Trump's effort to pressure state and local officials and to submit false slates of electors.

Special Counsel Jack Smith has provided a reassessed indictment against Donald Trump in the 2020 election subversion case.

The indictment was originally 45 pages and has now been cut down to 36.

Smith did not drop any of the four counts against Trump but he was forced by Supreme Court justices to refashion the allegations underlying the charges.

The main difference between the two indictments is prosecutors removed the entire section about Trump’s attempts to weaponize the Justice Department to help his re-election.

Many other changes were made. The indictment now leans primarily on Trump’s effort to pressure state and local officials and to submit false slates of electors.

Trump has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
