Marriage Helps Men Live Longer but Not Women

Researchers in Canada tracked 7,000 for several years for the study.

A study found tying the knot makes men more likely to “age optimally” and live longer. But, it doesn’t have the same effect on women.

Researchers in Canada tracked 7,000 for several years, and found men who were married were twice as likely to “age optimally” compared to singles. They defined optimal aging as not having any serious physical, mental, or emotional issues. They think marriage helps because your spouse tends to encourage you to adopt healthier behaviors, like quitting smoking and exercising regularly. Married men also reported higher levels of happiness overall.

Funny though, women who got married didn’t see any huge health benefits. The lead author thinks it’s because women just tend to maintain their health and well-being independently.
