Judge Blocks Policy Granting Immigrants Married To U.S. Citizens Legal Status
The 'Keeping Families Together' program was announced as a law to address undocumented immigrants who have lived in the U.S. for years.
A federal judge in Texas temporarily blocked the Biden administration from granting legal status to illegal immigrants married to American citizens.
The ‘Keeping Families Together’ program was announced as a law to address undocumented immigrants who have lived in the U.S. for years.
The policy allows unauthorized immigrants to apply for temporary work permits and deportation protections, under an immigration benefit known as parole. However, it only applies if they are married to a U.S. citizen, have lived in the U.S. for at least 10 years and pass background checks.
Monday, the judge issued an administrative order prohibiting the Department of Homeland Security from granting parole to those applying for the policy.
