Emmitt Martin is one of the five Memphis officers involved in the brutal beating of Nichols last year.
Martin has now pleaded guilty in connection to alleged civil rights violations and is the second former officer to change his plea in this case.
Desmond Mills Jr. was the first to plead guilty to federal charges of excessive force and obstruction of justice in this case.
Nichols died at the age of 29 after a traffic stop led to a foot chase and turned deadly. The incident involved the use of pepper spray, a stun gun and Nichols being repeatedly beaten.
All five officers involved were fired and an investigation led to their arrests.
