14 Arrested After Trafficking Operation Takes Place During Comic-Con

Nine adult potential trafficking victims as well as a 16-year-old juvenile victim were recovered.

14 people were arrested in a sting operation at the Comic-Con International Convention last week.

The convention dedicated to comic books and pop culture has attracted over 130,000 people in recent years.

This year, the California Justice Department’s San Diego Human Trafficking Task Force launched an undercover operation to target sex trafficking at the convention that unfolded from July 25-27.

Law enforcement posed as buyers in a bid to identify and contact potential trafficking victims. They also posted undercover ads soliciting sex to hone in on buyers.

14 buyers were arrested and now face solicitation charges. Nine adult potential trafficking victims as well as a 16-year-old juvenile victim were recovered.

It was said traffickers capitalize on large scale events such as Comic-Con.
