North Carolina Democrats Sue To Have RFK Jr. Removed From State Ballot

The move challenges the state election board's recent decision to recognize a new political party that secures Kennedy's position on the state's ballot.

The North Carolina Democratic party is suing to have Robert F. Kennedy Jr. removed from the state’s presidential ballot.

The move challenges the state election board’s recent decision to recognize a new political party that secures Kennedy’s position on the state’s ballot.

The complaint seeks to reverse the board’s action that made the “We The People” an official party. Lawyers representing the Democratic party alleged that Kennedy’s campaign bypassed tougher standards for independent candidates to get on the ballot by simulating as a political party in violation of state law.

Petition instructions for the “We The People” stated the party’s purpose was to put Kennedy on the ballot. However, lawyers claim that is not a permissible purpose under state law, and Kennedy needed to follow the rules for independent candidates.

The Democratic party asked a judge to act by August 16 to issue a preliminary injunction preventing printed ballots for the fall to contain “We The People” candidates.
