A world wide technology outage is impacting many airlines, banks, hospitals and more Friday.

Cybersecurity firm Crowdstrike said the issues believed to be behind the outage are not a security incident or cyberattack.

The company said the problem occurred when it deployed a faulty update to computers running Microsoft Windows and a fix is on the way. However, hours after the heart of the issue was discovered, the disarray continued and escalated.

Banks and hospital systems have also been off-line and some media outlets are off air.

Microsoft said they are working on rerouting the impacted traffic to alternate systems and they are also observing a positive trend in service availability.
