Texas Gov. Threatens To Issue Order After Thousands Remain Without Power
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has now threatened to issue an executive order which would force electricity provider CenterPoint Energy.
Nearly 300,000 customers are still without power across Texas after Hurricane Beryl hit last Monday. The Category 1 storm left behind much damage and cut off power to residents amid an extreme heat wave.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has now threatened to issue an executive order which would force electricity provider CenterPoint Energy to improve the reliability of its equipment and its level of storm preparedness if the company fails to address his concerns.
If the company does not comply or provide sufficient information by the end of this month, the governor will impose his own requirements on center-point that aim to keep power on through hurricane season until the next legislative session.
CenterPoint has already restored power to over 1.9 million customers since Beryl made landfall. The company expects to have electricity back on for 90% of impacted customers by the end of Monday.
