An Israeli strike killed at least 90 Palestinians over the weekend.
The strike took place in southern Gaza on Saturday and was conducted as an attempt to assassinate the leader of Hamas’ military wing. Mohammed Deif is Hamas’ military chief whose been hunted by Israeli forces for a long time now.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed Deif was in the area but is not certain if he or any other targeted Hamas commanders were killed. However, the strike occurred in an Israeli-declared humanitarian zone and killed at least 90 civilians and wounded around 300 others.
Hamas denied that Deif was in the area and stated Israel made false claims to “cover up the scale of the horrific massacre.”
Deif, along with Hamas’s top Gaza official, Yahya Sinwar, are believed to be the top militants behind the October 7 assault on Israel. The attack killed around 1,200 people and resulted in nearly 250 others being kidnapped.
