NHTSA Warns Vehicle Owners Of Replaced Airbag Inflators Dangers
Drivers with faulty inflators should have them replaced by a mechanic or dealership.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued a warning to car owners.
The auto safety regulator said car owners should avoid cheap, substandard replacement airbag inflators. It added the products are often manufactured by foreign companies with “little to no reputation of quality manufacturing or experience.” It was also said the airbag inflators are installed by disreputable establishment in vehicles previously involved in a crash.
The NHTSA says the replacement inflators are dangerous and could deploy partially or too slowly. The automotive parts have been tied to three deaths and two life-altering injuries in the last year.
