Hurricane Beryl Strengthens To Category 5

The hurricane is expected to continue strengthening on it's current path which would prompt life-threatening winds and storm surge to Jamaica Wednesday.

Hurricane Beryl has strengthened to a Category 5 storm kicking off an early hurricane season.

The storm tore through Grenada Monday knocking down buildings and leaving thousands without power or phone service across the island.

Around 90% of the homes on the nation’s union island are damaged or destroyed.

At least one death has been recorded at this time.

The hurricane is expected to continue strengthening on it’s current path which would prompt life-threatening winds and storm surge to Jamaica Wednesday. It is also expected to impact the Cayman Islands on Thursday.

The storm is the earliest Category 5 hurricane recorded. It is also only the second Atlantic storm of such strength to be recorded in July.
