Heavy Rainfall Causes Severe Flooding In Northwest Iowa
Officials conducted 250 water rescues on Saturday alone and over 1,000 residents were displaced and sheltered overnight.
Heavy rainfall in northwest Iowa caused extreme flooding over the weekend.
Beginning Friday, several areas saw up to 15 inches of rain, resulting in severe flooding.
Rivers crested several feet above record levels from the floods of 1993, and 16 flood gauges recorded historic levels.
Officials conducted 250 water rescues on Saturday alone and over 1,000 residents were displaced and sheltered overnight.
As of Saturday, 10 water systems and 21 wastewater systems have been reportedly affected by the flooding.
Additional rainfall prompted waters to continue rising resulting in an ongoing issue of flooding that could impact other parts of Iowa as well.
So far, no weather related deaths or injuries have been reported.
