Man Arrested After Firing Shots Near School Being Used As A Polling Place

A man has been arrested after shots were fired near a school which was being used as a polling place in Horry County.
Shortly after noon on Tuesday, police responded to the Galivants Ferry area on reports of shots fired.
One shot was fired approximately 75-feet from a school by Cody Akins. He was wearing an all-black “ninja” style costume, wielding a sword with a revolver-type hand-gun in his waistband.
Akins reportedly informed officers he fired one shot from his handgun at a target in his backyard directly adjacent to the school property near the polling entrance. He then reportedly shot around five more rounds a short distance away.
Though he was shooting at a small target, police said there was nothing behind the target to stop projectiles and there was the possibility of ricochet. Due to the “reckless, willful and wanton disregard” for other people’s safety, Akins was arrested and charged.
No one was injured during the incident.
