A stretch of Oak Street between 6th and 7th Avenue North will be closed to traffic for nearly six weeks starting Tuesday.

The closure is part of infrastructure work for the Arts and Innovation District.

A contractor is set to continue utility and sewer work at a new pump station.

The project is expected to be complete before the South Carolina Department of Transportation begins its Highway 501 realignment at Broadway street.

Drivers can expect to see detour signs posted.
