SLED Releases Details Regarding Fatal Shooting Involving Florence Officer
The deputy and a K9 followed him and found the suspect along with a second individual.
Further details have been released regarding the officer-involved shooting in Florence County.
On Sunday, a Florence County Sheriff’s deputy attempted a traffic stop on Palmetto Street. The suspect failed to stop which prompted a chase.
The vehicle eventually crashed into a home on E. National Cemetery Road.
The driver, identified as 43-year-old William Rankin, then fled into the home.
The deputy and a K9 followed him and found Rankin along with a second individual.
The K9 reportedly bit the person who was not involved in the chase and the deputy shot Rankin. He was transported to a hospital by EMS where he later died.
The person bit was taken to a medical center for treatment, they are believed to be ok.
The deputy was not injured but he was placed on administrative leave per standard protocol.
An investigation is still underway.
