Singapore Airlines Plane Experienced Severe Turbulence Resulting In One Death

Over 80 people were taken to a hospital. 20 are being treated in intensive care and 27 others have since been discharged.

An investigation was opened after a Singapore Airlines plane encountered severe turbulence Tuesday.

Flight SQ321 was traveling from London’s Heathrow Airport to Singapore when it hit the turbulence over.

The Boeing 777 was cruising at an altitude of 37,000 feet when it sharply descended to 31,000 feet within about three minutes. The aircraft then stayed at that altitude for under 10 minutes before diverting and landing in Bangkok less than an hour later.

211 passengers and 18 crew members were on-board at the time. Over 80 people were taken to a hospital. 20 are being treated in intensive care and 27 others have since been discharged. One man did not survive the incident.

Aviation investigators are now looking into what caused the severe turbulence.
