Suspect Of Laken Riley’s Murder Indicted By Grand Jury
26-year-old Jose Ibarra has now been indicted with malice murder and felony murder in connection to her death.
A grand jury Wednesday formally indicted the suspect accused of killing 22-year-old Laken Riley.
Riley was a nursing student of Augusta University. She was found dead in a wooded area at the Athens campus on February 22 after she didn’t return from a run.
26-year-old Jose Ibarra has now been indicted with malice murder and felony murder in connection to her death.
The indictment alleges Ibarra killed the student by “inflicting blunt force trauma to her head and by asphyxiating her” and seriously disfigured her head by striking her “multiple times” with a rock.
Additional charges in the 10-count indictment include aggravated battery, kidnapping with bodily injury, aggravated assault with intent to rape and more.
Ibarra will be arraigned on a date to be set by the court.
The incident has provoked lawmakers to tighten the reins on immigrants after it was revealed Ibarra is an illegal migrant from Venezuela.
