The state of Maryland will receive an insurance payment related to the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse.

The payment would come from insurer Chubb, which has a $350 million limit on the policy it had written on the bridge.

The policy will only cover a small fraction of the billions in damages and the clean-up costs associated with the March 26 collapse caused by a cargo ship.

So far, 3,000 tons of wreckage and debris have been removed from the site of the collapse for disposal or recycling. An estimated 50,000 tons still needs to be removed from the site.

The payment will be made before construction for the new bridge begins. Meanwhile, the construction process of a new bridge appears to be years away at this time.
