U.S. Accuses Russia Of Breaching International Chemical Weapons Ban

The U.S. has accused Russia of violating the international chemical weapons ban.

The country allegedly deployed the choking agent chloropicrin against Ukrainian troops and used riot control agents “as a method of warfare” in Ukraine.

Chloropicrin is listed as a banned choking agent by the Hague-based Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

It was said Russia stepped up its illegal use of riot control agents last month as it presses its biggest advances in eastern Ukraine in over two years.

In addition to the chemical, Russian forces have allegedly used grenades loaded with CS and CN gases.

At least 500 ukrainian soldiers have been treated for exposure to toxic substances and one was killed.

Russia has previously denied the use of chemicals, but has not yet commented on the United States’ allegations.
