Identities Of Officer And Suspect Involved In Robeson Co. Attack Released

The officer, identified as 23-year-old Denzel Burney, sustained multiple stab wounds.

The identities of the officer and suspect involved in an attack on Monday night, have been released.

Around 8:30pm, an officer of the Fairmont Police Department was attacked by a suspect with a knife under a bridge on Highway 41 at Highway 74 in Lumberton.

The officer sustained multiple stab wounds during the attack.

In an attempt to stop the assault, the officer fired his service weapon and struck the suspect, who was identified as 40-year-old Arlette Wiggins.

Wiggins later died from her injuries.

The officer, identified as 23-year-old Denzel Burney, sustained multiple stab wounds.

Burney was taken to a hospital to be treated for his injuries.

An investigation is still underway.
