17 States File Lawsuit Against The EEOC Over New Federal Rules

On Monday, federal regulations were finalized that provide guidance for employers and employees on how to implement the 'Pregnant Workers Fairness Act.'

Republican attorneys general from 17 states filed a lawsuit against the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

On Monday, federal regulations were finalized that provide guidance for employers and employees on how to implement the ‘Pregnant Workers Fairness Act.’

The new rules grant workers permission to ask for time off to obtain an abortion and recover from the procedure.

Business owners could face legal challenges if they fail to accommodate, even if abortions are illegal under the state law.

The finalized rules are set to go into effect on June 18. However, Arkansas and Tennessee lead a lawsuit that argues the regulations are an illegal interpretation of a 2022 federal law.

The EEOC has not yet commented on the lawsuit.
