The Arizona state House voted to repeal a law banning nearly all abortions.
Earlier this month, the state’s Supreme Court resurrected a law from 1864 that would only allow an abortion to be conducted if the mother’s life was at stake.
The ban was scheduled to take effect in June. However, three Republicans joined Democrats in the House Wednesday to repeal the ban in a 32-28 vote.
The bill now heads to the state Senate where it could be taken up by next week.
For now, the state’s 15-week abortion law stands until further action is taken.
