Israeli Chief Of Military Intelligence Resigns
Aharon Haliva is the first senior figure to step down over his role in the deadliest assault in Israel's history.
The chief of Israeli military intelligence resigned Monday.
Maj. Gen. Aharon Haliva’s decision to step down comes over failures surrounding Hamas’ unprecedented attack on October 7.
Hamas members broke through Israel’s border defenses and made their way through Israeli communities unchallenged for hours. The incident resulted in the death of over 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and around 250 hostages were taken to Gaza. The attack set off the ongoing war against Hamas.
Haliva said the intelligence directorate under his command did not live up to the task they were entrusted with and he will carry the pain of war with him forever. He is the first senior figure to step down over his role in the deadliest assault in Israel’s history.
