The first criminal trial of a former U.S. president is being held over whether Trump falsified business records to hide a hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 election.

Day three of Trump’s historic hush money trial occurred Thursday.

The first criminal trial of a former U.S. president is being held over whether Trump falsified business records to hide a hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 election.

Twelve jurors were officially selected during Thursday’s session. However, alternate jurors still have to make the cut for the case to move forward.

Judge Juan Merchan had to excuse two of the seven jurors chosen earlier this week. One expressed concern about her identity becoming public. She also raised concerns regarding her ongoing ability to render a judgement free from outside influences. The other was excused after questions were raised about whether the man was truthful in responding to a question about whether he or anyone close to him had been accused of a crime.

Court proceedings resumed Friday with jury selection to find the remaining alternate jurors.
