Alex Murdaugh has filed an appeal over his federal sentence regarding financial crimes.

The former Lowcountry lawyer is accused of stealing millions from his clients. He pleaded guilty to 22 charges including bank fraud, money laundering and more.

Murdaugh was sentenced to 40-years for those crimes earlier this month. He was also ordered to pay $8.76 million in restitution.

The appeal was filed by Murdaugh’s lawyers.

The 56-year-old is already serving two life sentences after he was convicted for the murders of his wife and youngest son who were killed in 2021.
