DOJ To File Antitrust Lawsuit Against Live Nation/Ticketmaster
The agency will further investigate whether Live Nation, Ticketmaster's parent company, has engaged in anticompetitive practices.
The Justice Department is preparing to file a federal antitrust lawsuit against Live Nation.
The merger between Live Nation and Ticketmaster was approved in 2010 by the DOJ following an antitrust investigation.
The two large companies have faced widespread public scrutiny for dominance in the ticketing industry, which reportedly allows them to raise prices on live entertainment.
Live Nation has maintained that there is plenty competition in the industry despite lamakers’ concerns. The company also argued that high ticket prices can also be attributed to supply and demand for events.
The DOJ is now preparing to file the lawsuit. The agency will further investigate whether Live Nation, Ticketmaster’s parent company, has engaged in anticompetitive practices.
