Tennessee Senate Advances Bill To Allow Teachers To Carry Guns
The legislation would allow teachers and staff in K-12 public schools to carry a concealed handgun on school grounds.
The Tennessee state Senate advanced a bill Wednesday.
The legislation would allow teachers and staff in K-12 public schools to carry a concealed handgun on school grounds.
Lawmakers passed the bill in a 26-5 vote. It comes nearly a year after a fatal shooting at a private Christian school in Nashville. Three 9-year-olds and three adults were killed in this incident.
The measure does not require approval by the state House before moving to the desk of Gov. Bill Lee, whose office has not yet commented on the possibility of signing it into law.
The bill puts the nationwide debate over arming educators back in the spotlight as shootings in America continue to be carried out.
