Rep. Marjorie Greene Threatens To Oust Mike Johnson As House Speaker

It's unclear if Greene will activate her resolution to oust Johnson, which would then force the House to vote on it within two legislative days.

Mike Johnson’s position as House Speaker is under threat.

The House is back in session Tuesday after a two-week-long Easter recess.

Upon returning, Johnson’s position is under threat after fellow Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene filed a motion to oust him just months after he took on the role.

The Georgia Republican filed a motion to vacate Johnson just before the chamber went on break. She made the move after a vote to fund the government to prevent a shutdown, which he needed Democratic votes to pass.

Greene also called Johnson a “Democratic Speaker” claiming he has worked closely with Democrats and shifted away from Republican ideals when it comes to providing for Ukraine. She called her motion to vacate a “warning,” adding, “It’s time for our conference to choose a new speaker.”

It’s unclear if Greene will activate her resolution to oust Johnson, which would then force the House to vote on it within two legislative days.
