Witnesses said four youths were outside and shot off fireworks close to a lifeguard stand.
Fire erupted after sparks from the fireworks landed in the dunes.
Two of the youths reportedly attempted to put the flames out but ran away when they weren’t successful.
Authorities are taking the opportunity to remind people it is illegal for anyone to use, fire, shoot, discharge, burn, ignite or activate fireworks anywhere within North Myrtle Beach City limits.
First offenses carry a fine of $310 with arrests on subsequent violations.
